Bridgette chose a pottery painting party for her birthday this year. She loves art projects, and she had gone to the pottery place a couple times before. So, when we were looking for a low key party idea, this seemed perfect.
We had a little trouble limiting our guest list - Bridgette had preschool friends, church friends, and cousins as guests. It was her first party without all the parents in attendance.
Each child got to choose his or her own colors and pick his or her own pottery piece to paint, and Bridgette chose a Chihuahua, which she ultimately painted a mottled orange.
Later - in desperation we allowed the children to pick out a second piece to paint. As it turns out, it doesn't take that long for 5 year olds to paint, particularly when they are distracted by the presence of lots of other little 5 year olds. After the second round of pottery we encouraged them to eat lots of pizza. And we used up a little more time, passing out their gift buckets.
Bridgette had lots of presents to open, and she enjoyed directing the process. She instructed all the other kids to sit down low, so everyone could see her gifts.
Finally, we moved next door to Cold Stone Creamery. Every child got a scoop of cake batter ice cream with sprinkles. Only Bridgette's scoop though got candles.
I won't say it was as easy of a party as I was hoping it would be, but I know Bridgette sure had a lot of fun!
