A Buggy Birthday

I really think Bridgette had the best birthday ever this year.  Of course, she's only had 4.

We've been talking up this birthday for awhile, and Bridgette's finally old enough to get what it is all about. So, she woke up early and snuck down to the kitchen with a big smile on her face. Breakfast (her choice: chocolate milk and orange juice popsicles) and parent presents (bug books, a watch and a "twirly" skirt) were the first order of the day.

Immediately after breakfast she chose to paint her own toenails, and then shortly thereafter (in a complete contrast that is typical Bridgette these days), she went outside and dug up worms (from girly girl to entomologist).  This kept her busy most of the morning, while Kevin and I continued to set up for the main event: her bug party!!

We possibly over did it on the bug theme.

The food:

The decorations:

The favors:

But the biggest hit were the live bugs.  Yes, LIVE.  We ordered 5,000 lady bugs and picked up a couple dozen night crawler worms.  The kids had little bug boxes to capture them in, and they had a blast doing so.  I literally had lady bugs crawling down my shirt.  Better that then the worms though.

I asked Bridgette what she liked best about her birthday.  She answered: the big stuffed worm, the bug catcher; and the bug vaccuum she got as a birthday presents; and she also liked the worm cupcakes.  So bugs ruled the day.

That is until tonight, when she happily begain painting MY toes!  Girly girl again.
