How Kids Get What They Want

Story 1:

You try to teach your kids to do right.  For example, we try to teach Bridgette how to pray and that you can ask Heavenly Father for the things that you want.  It backfired.

We were at Target this past weekend, when Bridgette became very enamored of a giant bag of Jelly Bellys.  Though she grabbed onto the bag and dragged it around the store with her, we were good parents and consistently told her, "no."  We weren't going to buy it for her. (Unless she pooped in the potty - but that's a whole other story)

Then, towards the end of our shopping trip, we watch as Bridgette sits down on the bottom rack of the shopping cart, tucks the bag of Jelly Bellys under her folded arms, squinches her eyes closed, and prays, "Dear Heavenly Father, can I please have these jelly beans? I really want them. Please."

Story 2:

So when we shared the above story with family, my sister-in-law Jen shared her similar experience.

I guess as Spencer's 4 year old birthday approached, there was a particular toy he wanted.  He told his Mom that Santa would give it to him (yes, I said birthday).

Jen, who knew this toy was not currently being sold, informed Spencer that Santa wasn't making this toy in his workshop right now.  Spencer, no dummy, told his Mom, "That's ok, Jesus can make it for me."

Story 3:

Now my nephew, Jackson, heard both of the above stories being told, and he quickly piped in with his own.

"Remember Mom," he started, "when there was a toy I really wanted and you wouldn't give it to me?"

"And then I called Grandma and asked her for it."  And apparently, he got it.

The Moral:

If you really want something, ask Grandma.

Yes! Grandma is the ultimate gift giver. She never lets anyone down! I'd say she is far above Santa :o)
