One of the fun and unique things about Bridgette - my 6 year old from Arizona - is her love of SEA FOOD.
From the time she was little, Bridgette was willing to try all kinds of food (Vivienne, by comparison, we call a "selective" eater). And it astounded me, watching her carry around a bag of broccoli, because let's be honest - I was a picky eater and still am.
But Bridgette has never lost her food curiosity and she has developed a particular fondness for trying sea food. Two days ago, to her uncle's surprise, she ordered the shrimp bowl at Tokyo Joe's, whereas most children probably would have opted for the PB&J "sushi" roll on the kids' menu.
So anyhow, I got the cutest message on my cell phone yesterday. Bridgette had a "vacation" day from her summer camp and was hanging out with her babysitter and Vivi.
Her message went something like this..."Mom, this is Bridgette. Can we go to Red Lobster? Or is it too expensive? I know its not, but Lauren said we had to check..."
Bridgette is a little Red Lobster obsessed. She sees the ads on TV and believes that this is the ultimate source of all sea food (well, we live in a desert, so maybe it is). We've been there once before and she ordered the clams - 'cuz that looked like the most exotic item on the illustrated menu. After approving her lunch trip to Red Lobster with babysitter Lauren, I found out she ordered crab legs. She is already asking me to take her back for more.
"You'll have to crack the shells for me though," she says.
