Turkey Trottin'

The Turkey Trot was a little bit different this year.

First, I was officially in training.  I began running this fall with my neighbor Kelly Kruse.  She and a group of her friends from church were getting ready for the Phoenix Half Marathon in January.  When we ran into each other running on the canal one Sunday morning, she invited me to jog along with them (fyi - my paralegal who runs marathons all the time says its "running" not "jogging").  So every Sunday, I was forced to upgrade my mileage, so I wouldn't look bad for the group.  This was a little hard post-viv.  My insides felt like they wanted to be on my outside.  But thanks Kelly for the motivation.  I needed it.

The second difference was location.  Instead of going to the traditional Mesa Turkey Trot - which has been around for a gajillion years.  We joined our neighborhood turkey trot, which started last year thanks to the Barneys.  They set up a two loop course (5k each), along the canal just northwest or our home.

Since it was so close and so casual (also free - donation to charity, however, accepted), we got lots more familial participants. My mom, Gretchen, Nathan, Stephanie, little Lorin, Alice and kids, and even Brett and Andrea and kids (these our cousin from Utah) all came out.  Some ran, some walked, and some watched.
